Q: Debra, I’m sure listeners would love to learn your strategy for getting on the Amazon top ten list.
A: The strategy I used comprised a couple of things. Before I actually got the book on Amazon I focused on building some community around what I was doing. One of the tools I used specifically is something called Thunderclap. Thunderclap is similar to crowd funding but it has nothing to do with raising money, at least not in the example of how I used it.
It’s a tool where you can go out and ask your friends to support you on the launch date of your book and they support you by posting on Facebook or Twitter but they don’t have to do the posting, they go to Thunderclap and by clicking a little button, Thunderclap will then program the post. I reached out to them about two weeks before the launch date so I could generate some of that excitement. What happened for me is I got over 130 people to say, “Yes Debra, I’ll support you.” What that meant was I had a reach, a social reach of over 1.4 million. People were able to then go, find out more about my book without me having … I don’t have 1.4 million fans or friends or followers so it was one way, one tool that I use that helped generate the buzz.
