Q: As an executive leadership coaching expert working with global leaders, let’s start off understanding what the term “coaching” really means?
A: Coaching is really accompanying somebody and helping the person to reach their goals. I like to say my slogan is “to get the person from where they are to where they want to be” and I do that using socratic questioning. You really have to learn the art of asking questions, suspending judgement, and really helping the other person think things out, and get over their blocks, their limiting assumptions. Now they use the term “developing a potential.” It’s using and leveraging competence, your intelligence, and trying to really have your clients overcome their limiting beliefs.
