Q: How necessary is it for an author to actually have a book launch?
A: I really believe in a book launch for the author to celebrate the completion of their book and to let their audience know that the book is out and to celebrate with their network. I actually think on a scale of 1 to 10, doing a book launch is an 11, it’s super important.
There are many different kinds of ways to launch a book. As we become more of a digital society and people are purchasing upwards of 37 percent of their books online, you’re seeing fewer book launches that take place in person. You’re seeing digital book launches, so it’ll be called a virtual book launch or a book launch party. They might have it on Facebook. The two types of book launches that people have, either in store or at a location or at their company, or they’ll do a virtual book launch.
Q: Is there a difference in book launches for a fiction versus a non-fiction book?
A: Yes. While I do primarily business and self help book launches. What I’ve observed is that a fiction book may have the ability to do more intimate launches. Meaning that you can have several different house parties with people in your network, or you can have a book club sponsor.
We recently did a mystery book launch and there were a lot of book clubs that specialize in that area. In a lot of ways it was easier for the author to invite people. Versus a business book launch at a downtown location where people might just be passing through.
